I believe that the spaces we live in have the power to transform us.
AKOU was born from this belief.
I am Ryslein Sakouni, a Moroccan textile artist and founder of AKOU Tufting.
I create unique textile artworks designed not simply to decorate a space, but to transform the way it is experienced.
Each creation begins with an encounter, a story and an emotion. Entirely hand-tufted in my studio in Morocco, every piece is conceived as a quiet presence — one that engages with its surroundings and accompanies those who live with it.
The Origins of AKOU
One question, two languages.
For years, I sought to understand the human experience through writing.
My books were born from this quest: why do we find it so difficult to love ourselves, understand ourselves and live at peace with who we are?
Today, that exploration continues in a different form.
Wool has become my language.
Each artwork is an invitation to slow down, to feel and to reconnect with ourselves.
Trained as a textile engineer, I chose to bring together material, craftsmanship and art to create entirely hand-tufted works in my studio in Morocco.
I don’t create artworks simply to be looked at.
I create them to accompany those who live with them.
